2D/3D Mammogram
What is a 2D/3D Mammogram?
2D/3D mammography is a breast cancer screening tool recommended for women aged 40 and over. It uses low‑dose X‑rays to detect early and hard‑to‑palpate breast abnormalities.
Differences between 2D and 3D mammography:
2D mammography: a traditional method that typically acquires images from two angles to evaluate the breast's planar structure and detect calcifications or masses.
3D mammography: using advanced technology, the machine captures multiple thin‑slice images from different angles and the computer reconstructs them into layer‑by‑layer 3D images, reducing tissue overlap artifacts and improving sensitivity for dense breasts and small lesions.

BNS Medical Imaging uses the Hologic Selenia Dimensions, an advanced 2D/3D mammography system that provides clinicians with high‑resolution, low‑noise, and reliable images, and features an ergonomic design to enhance patient comfort during examinations.
Central Branch offers 2D/3D mammography with a dedicated women's area, staffed by female medical personnel to ensure female patients receive care in a comfortable and secure environment. The centre is conveniently located near Central Station Exit B and Hong Kong Station Exit C.

Preparation and Process
Preparation before the examination:
– Please bring the latest relevant medical reports and old firms for comparison (e.g., X-rays, MRI , CT scans, etc.).
– Please notify our staff if you are pregnant or suspected you are pregnant.
– Please do not apply any deodorant, perfume, talcum powder or lotion before the examination.
– To minimize the discomfort during mammogram, the examination should be arranged after menstruation.
– Please notify our staff if you have breast augmentation or implant.
– Mammogram is recommended for women age 40 or above.
Before the Examination:
Female medical staff will escort female patients to the women's area and provide a gown for changing in a private changing room.
During the Examination:
The woman stands in front of the mammography unit and, following the female radiographer's instructions, places her breast between the imaging platform and compression paddle. The compression will last a few seconds and flatten the breast to obtain clear images. During the procedure, the woman may feel discomfort or slight pain, but this is a necessary part of the examination.
After the Examination:
After the examination, the female patient can leave once the female staff confirms there are no discomforts.
